EditorialVolXII, Issue 4

Putting forth this issue of INDUS has been a series of challenges. When one problem seemed solved, another cropped up. At many points, the only way out was the easy way out – giving up. But then again, why let the hurdles defeat us? And it’s only in the face of challenges, that we learn new things, new techniques. We find out how many people are willing to stand up and help get things done. And look how that turned out – we have a BUMPER issue for you this time – with an unprecedented ten (yes ten!) new articles for you to devour. And that is not counting the regular features.

So let’s get straight to what’s in this issue for you. First of all, we’re starting a three-part series on Ratio Analysis and Estimation courtesy of Makarand. The first part is in this issue, keep watching this space for subsequent parts.

Prabu explains the concept of Content Marketing.

If you recall the last issue, we had an article by Sumedh about his experiences as a newcomer in Canada. In this issue, he tells you what you should be doing if you are serious about looking for a tech writing job in Canada.

Continuing our series on tips for using tech writing tools, is Smitha. She has some tips for Captivate users.

Anindita’s wisdom speaks through her article on age-old tech writing myths. Watch her expertly bust some myths with her sharp pen!

Vikrant has some ideas on creating portfolios. Read his article to know what you should be doing right away!

Sharada tells you how she keeps up with the latest technologies… are you taking notes?

After a long time, we have a book review – Prasanna tells you what to expect in Lipton’s Practical Guide to Information Design.

Rajdeep has a quick report on the recently concluded Regional Conference that STC India organised in Bangalore. Ramesh also has a report – but this one is on the Author-it workshop that STC India organised in Pune.

For this issue, we have two very talented illustrators climbing on board – Nirupama Singh (Graphic Designer at Siemens PLM) and Vishesh Gupta (Tech Writer at ST Microelectronics). I’m sure you’ll enjoy the color they have brought to this issue as much as we did.

In the regular features we have the STC Announcements, STC India Announcements, and the city-specific Learning Session updates. Last, but never the least, STC India President, Michelle, wants an audience with you. Lend her an ear, won’t you?

Anagha Chandratrey,
On behalf of the INDUS team.

If you want to write for INDUS, check out the authoring guidelines and send in your articles to the editor before the 10th of October, 2010.

  1. Anagha, thanks for making this happen on time, with very little help. I’ve fixed the ToC link at the top to link to the current edition.

    Well done! 🙂

  2. Thanks Anindita for the kind words! 🙂
Sridhar, thanks for fixing that. You’re invaluable to the team!

  3. “Putting forth this issue of INDUS has been a series of challenges.”

I feel this sentence is wrong. Any takers?
