Prez Talk for April 2012

Prez Talk
As each financial year comes to a close, I find myself thinking about the everyday work we do, comprehending new systems, understanding new users, communicating with varied audiences, arguing our way over hindrances, using the different tools, and managing to perform multiple roles as technical writers. Then time to introduce a new tool to the routine, which also is motivated by your appraisals and budget allocated.

With the first tool, or a new tool, there is eagerness, excitement, enthusiasm, and zest which may dwindle, if there is not too much to offer by the tool. I still cannot forget the first day when I was about to learn a new tool in a new company, the passion, the eagerness that I had to see and experience the tool. How do we sustain what is motivating and fun in our work lives? How do we make sure the new tool is going to perform and give us a better experience than the one existing.

There is no one single answer – Evaluate (a dozen times), but some of the contributors in this edition of Indus give us insights into redefining the job, learning new areas of work and keeping the spark going with different tools that ease the work flow. I hope you will enjoy this edition on tools used in the TechComm world.

STC India’s calendar is filled with events for the next two months, with STC India conducting its second Summit in Pune on June 23. We are also planning to organize our second User Experience and Usability Conference in Bangalore again. Stay tuned for the updates on our newsgroup and portal.

Finally, we are heading to complete the first half of 2012, and I would like to urge all our STC India volunteers to contribute more in the various positions. Keep up the good work to all the performers till date!
