Hello, Friends!
Welcome to the third edition of STC INDUS for 2018. I would like to begin with welcoming the new members – Deepthi Jeelakarra, Manoj Kumar, and Aditya Aysola – to the INDUS editorial board and thank them for their contribution. My special gratitude goes to Deepthi Jeelakarra for the fire in her belly.
We are moving toward the end of the year and are eagerly waiting for the annual conference. Aren’t we? I am delighted to announce that the STC India 20th Annual Conference is going to be a three-day event commencing on 6th December 2018 in Mumbai, India. For details about the event, please visit our website.
Now let us talk about what all our new edition of INDUS brings for you. As always, we have tried our best to collaborate with people from different locations and put forth their ideas and expertise for you. The exciting news is that this time we have received contributions from the other parts of the globe as well. Not just technical communicators, but we have also reached out to their internal customers. We have tried to inquire what the development managers expect from technical communicators in the new era of product development.
This edition includes the following articles:
- The “Super Writers” of India: Anticipating Change and Future Innovations in Technical Communication by Dr. Breeanne Matheson and Dr. Emily January Petersen presents a survey conducted last year on female technical writers in India based on their roles, experiences, education, skills, and training to predict the technical writing trend in future.
- What’s Your Central Question? by John Baker emphasizes the need for knowing your customer and the problem that your product feature is resolving, before documenting them. It suggests going beyond What and How, and diving deep to uncover all the Ws.
- Designing Intelligent Content for AI – Part 2 by Ruchi Vohra is the second and the final part of the series on Writing for the Artificial Intelligence. This part particularly focuses on context-based or conversational writing, and how you can use it to help the user navigate through a user interface.
- Auto-Transcription for Ease of Authoring by Chandna Mitra limns the use and benefits of auto-transcription for timely delivery and happy customers. The article uses videos to illustrate how you can use the speech recognition tools.
- Technical Writing in an Agile World by Sudheer Brahmarouthu draws a picture of how technical writers should upgrade their participation in the agile world of application and product development to pace them to the demands of the market.
- Transition in Technical Documentation by Shailendra Kumar describes the significance of technical documentation and its alignment with software development, with advancements in Artificial Intelligence. The article touches upon the challenges and the opportunities before the technical writing community.
As always, we hope that you will enjoy reading and find the information interesting! We will, however, be happy to hear from you about the changes and enhancements that you would like to see in the next edition. Team INDUS works very hard to connect you to the writers and looks forward to receiving your feedback so that our contributors may know how many people are benefitted. Your feedback and suggestions encourage us to do better and more meaningful.
At the same time, we invite your participation by means of articles, blogs, reviews. Just send us your ideas and inquiries at indus@stc-india.org.
Best regards,
Chandna Mitra
